Weekend US 2 project north of Snohomish to backup traffic

If the weather cooperates this weekend, contractor crews will close one lane of US 2 over the Pilchuck River to replace the bridge’s expansion joints. Flaggers will alternate traffic through the single open lane from 9:00 pm on Friday, August 7th, until 4:00 am on Monday, August 10th.

Since 20,000 to 30,000 cars use this portion of US 2 every day, the resulting backups could stretch for miles.

The Washington State Department of Transportation encourages motorists who have to use this route to travel before 8:00 am or after 8:00 pm to avoid peak congestion.

This work is part of a multi-year project focused on US 2 safety improvements from Everett to Gold Bar. Included in this project is the replacement of old pavement, wider medians, and improved intersections. The project is scheduled to be complete this fall.
